Rock Band Wii release date June 22, 2008. Includes 5 extra songs, but no downloadable content
Harmonix and MTV Games along with distribution partner Electronic Arts today announced plans to release the award-winning music video game Rock Band on the Nintendo Wii in the U.S. and Canada on June 22, 2008 for the suggested retail price of $169.99.
Rock Band for Wii will be released as a Special Edition bundle including the software, drums, microphone and a wireless guitar. Stand alone instruments will also be available on June 22nd for people who want to build their band one instrument at a time or want to play the drum versus drum game mode. The game will feature 63 songs including five bonus songs for Wii gamers to enjoy. Check out all known 58 Rock Band songs in a list. The instruments don’t use the Wii Remote, they function the same as the peripherals on the other platforms.
And that’s it. A spokesperson explained that “Rock Band for the Wii will have functionality similar to the PS2 version. There will be no downloadable content [or online play] available, but the Wii version will have the five [unknown] additional songs on the game disc.” Furthermore, the music in the Wii version of Rock Band will be in stereo with Dolby Pro Logic II support and the visuals will be 480p compatible.

That’s terrible about the game not having any downloadable content. So much for using the WiiWare download service in May to give players more choice in music.
