Differences between Echochrome PSP & PS3 versions

astrotriforce February 11th, 2008 Listen to this article "Hey! Listen!"

Echochrome Screenshot for PSPEchochrome was released on March 19th in Japan in two versions, one for the portable PSP and one as a downloadable to the Playstation 3 via the PS3 Store.

At first glance both versions seem to be the same. Both contain the same perspective-based puzzles and sketch art-style, but there is a huge difference price-wise. The PSP version costs the equivalent of $37 (3,980 yen) dollars while the PSP version costs the equivalent of $17 (1800 yen).

So naturally it would seem that you can save money by simply getting the PS3 version of the Playstation Network.

But hold your horses young man! There are in fact differences between the two.

The PS3 version is actually just a demo, offering up only 50 of the 100 puzzles offered in the PSP version. The PSP game also includes multiple modes that are absent from the PS3 download. However both versions do contain the “Canvas” mode, which allows you to build and share your own created levels, as well as download user-created levels from others via the Playstation Network (or trade via PSPs).

It’s unknown at this time if there will be price differences between the PS3 demo (called Echochrome: Jokyoku in Japanese, which translates to “Echochrome: Prelude” in English) and the PSP version when it releases outside Japan; Sony Computer Entertainment America often adjusts prices for North America to make the games cheaper, as they did with Piyotama, Go! Sports Ski, Jeanne D’Arc, so Echochrome may get the same treatment when it comes Stateside. — Via Siliconera

[…] Echochrome is a unique and captivating puzzle game. Echochrome challenges the player to abide by 5 simple laws of perspective, which govern how the player advances through each stage. Offering the most gameplay with the least graphics, Echochrome is likened to playing a M.C. Escher drawing. The player controls an infinite canvas, guiding a mannequin figure by carefully controlling the perspective, tilting and turning the level to create a continual pathway for the mannequin to walk safely through the design. Throughout the encounter, the mannequin will be guided by echos, or shadow guides, used as progress points to advance players along the pathway. There is no set pathway for any level in Echochrome. Players will find different and limitless ways to advance through each stage. […]
