Eternity’s Child has been announced for Nintendo’s WiiWare service and will be coming in the second quarter of this year at a cost of only five dollars (500 Wii Poins).
The game is the creation of cartoonist Luc Bernard and was originally set to be released on Xbox Live Arcade, as one of the first titles that was done using the XNA toolset. But there are reports that they switched from Xbox Live to WiiWare due to Microsoft’s 150MB size restriction, even though IGN has reported that WiiWare has a 40MB size limit, although Nintendo has disputed that figure. If true though that would mean the game wouldn’t look quite as nice on the Wii as it would on the 360.
Either way, the fantasy fairytale adventure uses handdrawn 2D art to bring the characters to life and is also set to hit the Nintendo DS, published by Alten8 in Britain.
Update:
Here’s some new details on Eternity’s Child straight from Luc Bernard’s mouth:
DJ: How long do you expect the game to be?
Luc Bernard: I would say around 20 hours of gameplay.
DJ: Will there be any hidden items or unlockables to add to the replay value, or any multiplayer modes?
LB: There is a 2 player co-operative mode and there will be unlockables of course.
DJ: Will the co-operative mode involve split screen or both characters moving in the same area?
LB: On the same screen.
DJ: Will there be any WiFi (Local or Online) features or connectivity to the Wii game?
LB: Well I would like to make it WiFi I must admit both versions I would like to make WiFi but I will have to see with my publisher.
The game will tackle some controversial subjects like global warming, racism and pollution, but wraps it up in the unique, cartoony yet cleverly designed platforming package.
Check out the game’s beautiful and imaginative environments, character art and enemies in these screenshots.
