It’s just been confirmed that Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and Will Wright’s Spore will be released on the Mac in 2008.

Call of Duty 4 on PCAspyr Media announced they will publish Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for Mac, a gripping modern-day action-thriller that deploys players into heart-stopping battles across the world’s most treacherous hotspots. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers unprecedented high-definition graphics, piercing 5.1 surround sound and a dynamic community-oriented multiplayer experience. Developed by Infinity Ward and licensed by Activision, the $49.99 game is expected to be available for Mac in May 2008.

Spore on PCElectronic Arts are set to announce Spore (codenamed Sim Everything) will be released later in 2008 simultaneously on PC and Mac. Normally Mac games would be released months after their PC counterparts. This cross-platform release is made possible at the same time thanks to the use of a special software layer supplied by Toronto-based TransGaming Technologies. 1UP reports this software is capable of interpreting hardware calls to Windows DirectX into Mac-capable instructions. Through use of this technology, Electronic Arts (and others) seem hopeful about bringing even more games to Mac in the coming months. — Keep in mind that News.com‘s original report doesn’t clarify if EA told them this date, so likely as it may be, a late 2008 release for Spore might be pure speculation.
