The latest issue of the Japanese gaming magazine CoroCoro has confirmed Pokemon Ranger 2 for Nintendo DS. In Japan the game is titled Pokemon Ranger: Batonnage and will be released there on March 20th, 2008. If the first game from two years ago is any indication, expect an American/Canadian/Australian release in Q4 2008 and Q1 2009 for Europe.
The action-RPG elements are said to be the same as the first Pokemon Ranger game, but the below list explains what’s new in the sequel:
* The game takes place in a region called Almia (or Arumia).
* The main character is a male called Hajime (which means: Start/Begin), but you can select either a male or female character. They have both just graduated from Ranger School.
* There will be appearances from a number of 4th generation Pokemon, including Darkrai, Lucario, Heatran, and Cresselia.
* You can select your support partner out of 17 possible combinations: Munchlax, Kricketot, Mime Jr., Cranidos, Croagunk, Machop, Shieldon, Chimchar, Piplup, Turtwig, Pachirisu, Starly, Snover, Misdreavus, Hippopotas, Sneasel, and Gible.
* Aside from the main missions you’ll be doing in the game, there will be side-quests in which you help towns.
* You can collect cards to boost up your Capture Styler, for example an Electric one which lowers Electric Damage to your styler by 3.
* You can Surf on Pokemon during certain sections of the game.
* Use for the online Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection is included, but details are unknown.
