Sony’s Kazuo Hirai has stated that they will ship their 11 millionth PlayStation 3 game system before the end of their current financial year, which ends on March 31st 2008. They also state that they will be pursuing a more aggressive development strategy for the future, this according to YomiuriOnline (as translated by Gamefront.de).
The recent introduction of the cheaper 40GB PS3 has had a positive effect on sales as well, says Hirai, and has helped re-establish “PlayStation as a games machine”. i.e. It’s not just a Blue Ray player!
However, while Hirai has said that a good pricing strategy is important, he said that Sony is looking to put a lot more effort and resources into software to ensure the PS3 has a better spread of games.
As long as Sony can keep hits like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Ratchet & Clank Future in the coming months and years then the PS3 should be in good in shape.
