Blue Dragon 2 possibly an online title (MMORPG?)

Blue Dragon for Xbox 360Takashi Sensui, Japanese General Manager at the Home & Entertainment Division Microsoft, has a difficult task. His bio reads: “He is in charge of expanding Microsoft’s home entertainment business with Xbox 360 in Japan.”

Not an easy feat considering the lack of big RPG’s is a big bottleneck. That’s why Microsoft’s Japan unit aims to double the number of game titles for the Xbox 360 in Japan to 500 by the end of 2008, Mr. Sensui said in an interview with Jiji Press. The Xbox 360 has been struggling in Japan as cumulative sales have totaled about 500,000 units since it was released in December 2005. But Mr. Sensui said the console can win over hardcore gamers and that reaching one million units in sales is not far fetched.

What’s interesting about this is that new titles may include a sequel to the RPG blockbuster Blue Dragon. Developer Mistwalker boss Hironobu Sakaguchi reaffirmed in April 2007 that he wanted a sequel, after stating as early as November 2006 that Blue Dragon 2 was being planned.

To quote what he said at a recent Korean press conference: “We’re in talks with Microsoft about development of a sequel. Specifics aren’t finalized, but there’s a possibility that it will be produced as an online title,” reports CVG
