Wii rain check program at GameStop starts December 20th

Did you get the Nintendo Wii before it sold out?Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime held a press call yesterday, in which he discussed the “overwhelming demand for the Wii” and Wii supplies through the holidays and beyond. He even mentioned half of the 1.8 million Wii’s that are produced monthly are shipped to America, since it sells out there right away.

This is where the Wii rain check program at GameStop comes in, it’s meant for consumers to get a Wii after Christmas. To get the Wii rain check, full payment is needed on December 20th or 21st, to receive a Wii system sometime in January 2008. This way there will be “many tens of thousands of rain checks available across their roughly 3,000 points of distribution”, that guarantee a system in January, for people to put under the Christmas tree.

Despite being sold out almost everywhere worldwide, there will be Wii systems available in America this weekend at WalMart, Best Buy, Kmart, Sears, Target, TRU, and Circuit City. You can’t say we didn’t warn you well ahead of time Wii’s would sell out again this year. — Quotes via Kotaku

Yeah, but you have to look at it as a gift certificate or IOU. It’s almost a Wii, but not quite, heh.
