As a conclusion let’s rate this game on its fun-basis.

FUN FACTOR – 8.5
It’s no wonder the SingStar series on PS2 has sold over six million copies, it’s great fun! The first game on PS3 is a great way to get some laughs if you’re not the best singer and perfect for putting would-be singers in the spotlight with the Eye camera and a big microphone in their hands. The game comes with two wired mics for the duet mode and wireless mics are promised for 2008. While the 30 tracks might not be for everyone, there is at least one song for every person and there will be dozens more to download to their liking. It’s the perfect party game, and that’s coming from someone who keeps getting tone deaf scores. Playing solo will get boring fast, but no matter, because in a group this karaoke game shines.

Graphics – 8.0
The menus have a great style and even their look can be changed and wallpapers of your favorite artists be downloaded. And then there’s the main attraction, High Definition music videos, what more could you want? If you answered that with “more than just 30 songs” then you should know any more wouldn’t be a pressure on the visual and audio data a Blu-Ray disc can hold, but would instead mean higher song copyright costs they’d have to charge to you.

Audio – 9.0
The music is of course a great selection from classics to new tunes. For every funny cringe-worthy song to sing along with like Blink 182’s All The Small Things or Britney Spears’s Toxic, there’s a great karaoke track like Gorillaz’s Feel Good Inc or Robbie Williams and Nicole Kidman’s Somethin’ Stupid. But even there the musical tastes vary, like they should, which is likely why there are so many songs from different genres.

Ingenuity – 8.5
The menus are simple to navigate and look smooth as silk. Every option is polished. The online features are great, a mix between Flickr, YouTube and Myspace for you to upload your best singing pictures and video performances to for others to rate and challenge your highscores on. And downloading songs will be done in an iTunes style store. It all speaks for itself and is easy to do. Both PS2 & PS3 cameras and microphones will work with this PS3 version, again very straightforward plug and play.

Replay Value – 9.0
The game will ship with 30 songs on disc, although different countries are getting different songlists, but you’ll be able to download more songs from the online SingStore. The SingStore will initally launch with 44 songs, including the selected songs from the PS2 back catalogue, with over 350 songs promised by early 2008. You can access it all through the game itself as long as you’ve got enough credit in your PlayStation Store wallet, before buying you even get a preview. The downloads will feature the entire music video, and will be in high definition where available. Each song will cost: £0.99 / €1.49 / AU$2.45. So while the disc might not have all your favorite songs, you can be pretty sure the SingStore will have them for download. Whether you’re a gamer or non-gamer, SingStar PS3 is for people of all ages, making this a great karaoke system that’ll last you a long time.
