Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots delayed to 2nd quarter of 2008

It’s official. Konami has delayed Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3 once again! The game is now scheduled for release in the 2nd quarter of 2008, which means it won’t be hitting U.S. shores until at least Spring of next year at the earliest probably.

Although apparently it is still scheduled for release simultaneously in Asia, North America and Europe. Originally it was scheduled for release “this Winter”, but let’s be honest, did anyone actually expect that? I know I didn’t! (Ok, apparently Kotaku did )

The reason for the delay? “Konami has decided to delay the title’s release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide. We will continue our efforts to make MGS4 meet everyone’s expectations.”

I wonder if Konami is re-considering releasing Metal Gear Solid 4 for Xbox 360 . . . .

MGS4 most likely not going to 360. The statement probably means that they are adding rumble to the game. Kojima said that if he had the time he would add rumble, so now it seems that he does.

I´m not happy with another delay… but what is worse is that if MGS4 goes over to X360, then this will becomes a nail on the PS3´s coffin. People had basically baught the machine (early adopters) for MGS4, Gran Turismo, GTA and Madden. Sony already lost GTA 4 and Madden is just as good on the X360.

Losing this game to X360 would be a huge battle won in favor of MS. Sooo… Sony CANNOT loose this game and they better give Kojima whatever exclusive or money Kojima wants because its now up to Kojima… Konami only publishes it, I bet Konami is even looking in favor of also going to X360 cause its more land to conquer by publishing the game. ($$$)

They cannot loose this game cuase they would be loosing millions of customers who have not baught the console yet (smart fans) and are waiting in the shadows to see how this all turns out. Also chances are they already have a 360 and/or Wii. So they could just not buy the PS3 and still play the game with great quality and with an already established online community to just easily lift off MGO.

Now on the flip side… this could also be an open and shut case and maybe K. Productions and Konami are just trying to coordinate the launch of MGS4 with something else on Sony´s part… I don´t know, off the top of my head………. HOME?

So that could be another posibility. Personally I hope its the latter one. It´d be a shame to see the PS3 and the word Death become synonimous… just a little over its first year of launch and miss on all that potential inside such a futuristic and highly developed electronic hardware.

(Wow, I just read all that and I sound like some PR guy. )
