The first screenshots and video of Soldier of Fortune 3: Payback (release date November 21st) for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 have finally surfaced.
The game is the latest in the Soldier of Fortune series previously developed by Raven Software. This new game is being handled by the Slovakian-based Cauldron (makers of “The History Channel: Civil War” and “Battle Isle” games) and will be published by Activision as part of their “Activision Value” line of budget games.
Not a lot is known about the game at this point, but it has been confirmed that “gore and flying body parts” will be returning, as well as character models that feature 36 different damage/separation points. The game will also have “destructible environments” although it’s not known to what degree.
Not confirmed are whether or not Soldier of Fortune 3 will continue using the GHOUL engine, an in-house engine developed by Raven Software for the previous games that allowed for such a high-detail level of blood, gore and dismemberment (that the series is famous for) or whether Soldier of Fortune 3: Payback will use an all-new engine, possibly the Doom 3 engine, which has been suggested but not confirmed.
Soldier of Fortune 3: Payback has a target release date of November 21st, 2007 but a final date has not been confirmed.
