Metal Gear Solid 4 video interview discusses east and west, the new aiming system and flashbacks to previous MGS games!
What more can be said about Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (release date: March 1st, 2008) that hasn’t already been said? Well plenty of course!
In this video interview with the developers over at Konami, they discuss how Kojima has to top his previous work to be able to sleep at night (yes, I’m paraphrasing), how Metal Gear Solid 4 address the two biggest complaints that MGS3 had: the controls and camera-work. They discuss how MGS4 is being developed with an international audience in mind, thus they have two different aiming schemes; a more easy quick auto-aim for Japanese gamers, and a more advanced Resident Evil 4/Gears of War-style aiming system that allows you to target any body part for Western gamers. The game also has more camera options with a completely new default third-person viewpoint as you probably already know.
They also discuss Metal Gear Online a bit, confirm that MGS4 will have you playing as Snake pretty much the entire way through, they talk of the monkey (MONKEY!!!!) that we saw in the last MGS4 TGS trailer, who is the companion for the new arms-dealer character that will help you out in the game. There’s a new flashback feature where the a circle will appear in the corner during references to the past games, and if you hold the button it will actually play a scene from that MGS game! The flashback scenes are ripped straight from those titles as well, but will have new audio and effects to liven them up a bit. And once again, they reiterate that this is the last game . . . in Solid Snake’s story. Here that little twist of words there? I’m sure if this game is a huge success (which it already is, eh) they won’t develop a Metal Gear Solid 5 . . . *end sarcasm*
