Tom Clancy’s Air Combat announced by Ubisoft for “next-gen consoles” and PC
Ubisoft has announced Tom Clancy’s Air Combat for “next-gen” consoles and PC. You can bet it will be coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 due to the tech behind the machines, with a Wii version unlikely but not completely ruled out.
As the title implies, Tom Clancy’s Air Combat is a “flight combat” game that, like most Tom Clancy-related media, is set in the “near future” and is in the tactical, pseudo-realistic military vein like all his past games.
Air Combat imagines a world where a private military force has accumulated such power that it attacks the USA. Thrust into the cockpits of incredibly powerful and technologically advanced jet fighters, gamers will benefit from hi-tech piloting assistance, providing comfort, security and enhanced perception. As players gain skills and confidence, they will be able to shed the assistance. But before choosing performance over security, they’ll have to weigh the risks carefully.
For other PMC (Private Military Company)-focused games, you may be interested in the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Army of Two games. So the storyline isn’t exactly unique, but at least it is familiar territory for Clancy fans.
Tom Clancy’s Air Combat marks the fifth franchise under the “Tom Clancy” video game brand. The others are: Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six and the upcoming console RTS (real-time strategy) game EndWar.
No word on whether or not Air Combat will use the Xbox 360 “Ace-Edge” flight stick that will come bundled with Namco’s Ace Combat 6, but let’s hope so.
Tom Clancy’s Air Combat does not have a release date yet but expect to see it sometime in 2008.
