Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is delayed until early 2008! This coming from the developer Pandemic Studios, who has confirmed the delay that originally sprang from retailers who let the date slip. The game will now be coming in “Q1 2008″ with nothing anymore specific than that.
So that’s another 2007-delayed-till-2008 game you can add to your growing list. And that list is extensive, including everything from the huge and well-publicized Grand Theft Auto IV delay (a scare for Take Two until the success of Bioshock) to Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures to Splinter Cell: Conviction to Devil May Cry 4 to Blacksite: Area 51 & The Wheelman to Left 4 Dead and . . . I’ll stop there.
Pandemic, who has been hard at work creating the much anticipated sequel to the open-ended sandbox action adventure shooter (phew!), this time with COMPLETELY destructible environments, has said that the reason for the delay is so they can further polish the game to make it the best dang explosion game we’ve ever seen. To quote: “We’re not adding new features or content at this point, we are using the extra time to make sure that the game is 100 percent polished and truly shines as the best next-gen, open-world experience on any gaming system to date.”
Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is in development for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, and PC, and is the follow-up to Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction which was released on the original Xbox and PS2 in 2005, to extremely high review scores and much critical acclaim. As a gun-for-hire, you will go around the open-world warzone creating havoc as you please, as in any other sandbox game.
The setting of this new title is a fictional near-future Venezuelan civil war. A storyline which even caught the attention of Hugo Chavez, who claimed Mercenaries 2: World in Flames is “American government propaganda”. So please, if anything, buy the game just to spite the Fidel Castro wanna-be.
