Yakuza 3 has been revealed and it is coming to the Playstation 3 in the spring of 2008, although it hasn’t been confirmed to be a guaranteed Sony exclusive at this point in time, so it could very well come to the Xbox 360 as well.
Yakuza you may remember was developed by Sega and released for the PS2 in the US on September 5th 2006. It was basically a kind of Japanese take on a GTA-style game, the title deriving from the organized crime groups in Japan similar to the Mafia. A sequel was released in Japan in December of 2006, and gained some very high marks from Famitsu, which gave it a score of 38/40, the same score they gave Zelda: Twilight Princess! But due to the first game not meeting expectations in America, the second game may never see light on these shores.
Yakuza 3 for those keeping track will not take place in modern day, but in 1605 Edo Japan, reports Joystiq. Let’s hope this new game may be released outside of Japan since they are jumping to a next-gen platform.
Update: The Yakuza 3: Kenzan trailer is out now.
