Syphon Filter 6: Logan’s Shadow PSP release date is October 2nd. Dark Mirror hitting PS2 on September 18th
Syphon Filter fans will be getting their fill this holiday with two titles, even though one of them is a port.
Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow is the latest game in the series and it, like the last game, is on the PSP. Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow has a US release date of October 2nd and a European date of October 10th.
Logan’s Shadow game features are:
* Havok physics engine provides life-like physical reactions on both characters and environments
* New and improved weapons, such as grenade launchers, sticky mines, smoke grenades, and flash bangs
* New character actions enable players to force enemies to take cover with blind fire or protect health with the new human shield features
* Underwater physics allows players to experience 360 degrees of water navigation to explore shipwrecks and target enemies with new underwater weapons like the bolt pistol and spear gun
* Improved buddy mechanics
* New multiplayer game mode called Combat Ops.
In Combat Ops players choose from new factions in 5 game modes, 2 of which are new to the franchise. New modes include Sabotage and Retrieval. Sabotage pits two teams against each other as they try to locate bomb codes and arm the other team’s nuclear warhead, while Retrieval has players trying to retrieve objects scattered around the map and bring them back to base. Returning modes are Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Rogue Agent. Tweaks include “any-time melee”, knives in multiplayer, and a number of new items and weapons such as the “Bouncing Betty” and “Sticky Mine”. Combat Ops offers both infrastructure and Ad-hoc gameplay for both online and offline fun.
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror is a PS2 port of last year’s PSP Syphon Filter title and it has a US release date of September 18th and a European date of September 12th.
Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror’s features are:
* Game physics with ragdoll effects.
* A variety of weapons and gadgets such as thermalvision, and a knife.
* Just like in the original, Gabe will always have a taser, flashlight, knife, his bare hands and a Mark 23 (similar to the 9mm he carried in the original game).
* Wall hugging as seen in both the Metal Gear Solid and Splinter Cell series.
* Highly impressive AI for a portable system.
* Expansive multiplayer options, both via Ad Hoc (local with game sharing) and Infrastructure (Internet) modes. These include traditional deathmatch styles, as well as cooperative missions.
* To unlock gadgets and New weapons in Multiplayer you need to advance in rank or do certain objectives.
* The ability to use thermal goggles very much like Splinter Cell
* Five unlockable bonus missions, with some serving as an epilogue to Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain, the previous game in the franchise.
No idea if the PS2 port will include any additional features, but the game IS being toned down from an M for Mature rating that the PSP version had (content descriptors included: Blood, Intense Violence, Partial Nudity, and Strong Language) to a T for Teen rating with the new descriptors: Drug Reference, Language, Mild Blood, Suggestive Themes and Violence. Thus you can conclude that there will be content changes cause that’s the only way they could tone the game down a whole rating is if they make cuts.
