Project Origin has been selected by Monolith Productions as the official name of their follow-up to their hugely successful horror themed first-person shooter “F.E.A.R.” (First Encounter Assault Recon). The game is not considered a “direct-sequel” in the traditional sense, because Warner Bros. purchased Monolith Productions in 2004 from Vivendi Games, who kept the rights to the name “F.E.A.R.”, but only the name.
Since they didn’t have a name for their F.E.A.R. follow-up, they decided to ask their fans! So Monolith and Warner Bros. held a naming contest earlier this year. To be qualified, the names had to evoke images of: “frenetic action”, “horror (Asian-themed)”, “apocalypse” and last, but definitely not least, “gore”. The name entries were then voted on by fans through the Monolith official site.
And so the new name for the FEAR follow-up, as the subject shows, is “Project Origin”, which was the winning name as voted on by fans. Project Origin is steeped in the paranormal and focuses on a protagonist that can defy space and time. Of course, the creepy child Alma is also a centerpiece of the new title.
Project Origin will be released for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, no release date, price or rating yet, but you can be sure it’ll be rated M for Mature like the last title.
