Dino Crisis is an often overlooked Capcom game for the original PlayStation that was very much a Resident Evil clone but with 3D environments instead of pre-rendered backgrounds and dinosaurs in place of zombies . . .
The game had an all new story and characters but it quite simply was not as interesting or involved as the Resident Evil franchise, and it almost felt like a carbon copy of Resident Evil since all the hallway running, item and ammo collecting, door-opening, puzzle solving and dinosaur shooting gameplay was directly ripped from Capcom’s more popular franchise. And lets face it, dinosaurs just aren’t as scary as zombies.
But regardless, the game wasn’t half bad. I personally enjoyed it, even though I’ve never beaten it since I could not figure out that stupid pipe “spacial reasoning” puzzle! Grrr! And too bad Dino Crisis 3 on Xbox pretty much killed the franchise . . . it’d make an interesting revival with graphics to do it justice if they re-did it nowadays.
