Okami 2 sequel and Okami Wii port wanted by its designer

The action/adventure game Okami was made by Capcom for PS2. It combined several Japanese myths and legends to tell the story of how the land was saved from darkness by the Shinto sun goddess, named Amaterasu, who has taken the form of a white wolf that you played as.

And if Devil May Cry creator and Okami designer Hideki Kamiya has anything to do with it, there’ll be more epic wolf action soon in an Okami 2 sequel that he has in mind. He revealed Capcom has no concrete plans to make Okami 2, and nothing has been greenlit. However, insiders told Kotaku that while it’s not his decision to make, he would still really like to create Okami 2.

Meanwhile, Capcom’s Mega Man designer Keiji Inafune is considering a Wii port saying: “Of course [a Wii version of Okami is] something that I’ve personally thought about, but it’s easier said than done. It’s a cliche, but it’s not just saying, ‘Okay, let’s port it over here.’ There’s technology, controls and then people to make the game, whether it’s scheduling or knowing the hardware you want to take it to.”

Obviously it would be a perfect match for the Wii motion sensor controls, so he continued: “It’s not out of the realm of possibility, but we don’t have any plans for it right now, and nothing to comment on,” he told Gameinformer.

Update November 6th 2008: Capcom has released their sales data for the Wii version of Okami that was released earlier in 2008. Total sales on Wii were over 300,000, that’s 210,000 units sold in America and 90,000 units sold in Europe! At last count in March 2007, after a year the PlayStation 2 version of Okami ended up selling 270,000 units worldwide. — I guess what I’m getting at is that overall sales of 570,000+ would make a possible Okami sequel more likely.

note: sly 4 is noted to be called “king of theives” and i was told by an unreliable source…good enough

To Chizumaru: That wouldn’t happen. What happened in Okami was based on japanese mythology. Even the name of where they live, Nippon; that was what Japan used to be called. Sure, they made a few editations, (like the legend didn’t Happen twice, and Susano in the real legend used to be a God, and Ammy’s brother, but he became mortal as punishment and decided to be a warrior.)

They decided not to have a sequal… DAMMIT! I WANT ONE! ;_;

I liked it on the PS2! I know they don’t want to release much on PS2 but it would be good for all systems… But it having a sequel would be very nice…. They could make something up… or continue on a different animal(ex: Cat^_^) or just something after^_^ FOR GOD’S SAKE THAT ENDING WITH AMMY WALKING WAS TOO CUTE I WANT TO SEE A BLOODY SEQUEL!!!!!….. ok I’m done ranting for another…^_^’

i hope they make okami 2 cus the first one touched my heart at the end (dont mean to sound *** or anything) but it was a great game.im looking forword to okami 2 if they ever make It.

I really want an Okami 2, the game was amazing! and another animal would be cool, but I want it to be Ammy on the cielestal plain making life better and stuff lol haveing evil pple in the way and stuff, and haveing ammy look uber godish too like in the end. Ive beaten that game repaditly and i really want to see a second 1. I know its been a while but i really hope they at least think about making it again.
