Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto video interview reveals he’ll never retire and discusses DS 2, Wii HD & GBA’s death
In the weeks since E3 2007 there have been a lot of interviews with Shigeru Miyamoto published, but none quite as upfront as Kotaku‘s video interview. Instead of talking to Miyamoto about the things he often is seen talking about (games), Brian & Brian decided to talk more about Nintendo’s philosophy regarding hardcore versus casual gamers, DS supply issues being real, the future of the company’s hardware platforms like the DS 2 and Wii HD. And the really good news is that Mario’s daddy isn’t going to retire, like movie directors he expects that if the work at Nintendo stays fresh he’ll be doing it his entire life.
As well as the real kicker… if it’s true that instead of the DS being the third pillar like Nintendo originally announced it to be, it’s now replaced by the DS and the GameBoy Advance is dead? Miyamoto’s answer: the hardware is still selling well and it has many games owners might not have played yet, but development focus has shifted to DS, so GBA won’t be like the still-not-dead but kind-of-died-long-ago Dreamcast.
