Get ready to jam! Jam Sessions is an upcoming guitar emulator for the Nintendo DS by Ubisoft, and it’ll be available in stores this September in the US, and probably soon after in Europe.
In Jam Sessions, the Nintendo DS touch screen represents a guitar’s strings and the D-pad and buttons become the fingered chords. By “strumming” on the virtual strings you’ll play the chord that you’ve selected on the D-pad. The tool recognizes both up and down strums at half and full velocities, and you’ll hear the subtle changes to the chord in the different ways you play them.
Originally this game was a Japanese title called Hiite Utaeru DS Guitar M-06. For this US version, the title has been given a whole suite of new features that make it even more of a must-have musical diversion on Nintendo DS! Whether you are into country, blues, metal or just making beautiful ballads, Jam Sessions very well may help create a whole legion of guitar players who never would’ve picked up a guitar otherwise.
But words don’t do the game justice, check it out yourself!
Jam Sessions features:
- It’s like having a guitar in your pocket! Play and make music without disturbing the person next to you.
- Realistic guitar sounds allow you to create new music or play your favorite songs if you know the chords.
- Over 20 licensed tracks or “sheet music” to play built into the game.
- Assign up to 16 different chord sounds total to the d-pad at any one time, not including the tuneless “strum” effect that you get w/out pressing buttons.
- Create and save up to 5 different songs, length can exceed one minute for a single saved song. Possible to save a five minute song.
- Microphone support allows you to record vocals.
- Plug into an amp for even more realistic sound.
- Includes at least three game modes, such as:
* Challenge – You play to unlock other features such as upgraded strings and new backgrounds.
* Free Play – You simply play, sounding out songs or just practicing without being judged.
* Tutorial Mode -The game teaches you to play the game.
- Single string can be stroked up and down for different sounds, and registers how hard you do it for a softer or heavier sound.
- Only one string means no fancy playing.
- No multiplayer support.
