PS3 and PSP fireworks in August, Wii surprise in September

David ReevesSCEE’s president and CEO David Reeves said E3 wasn’t where Sony gave out their peak season announcements. That’s reserved for the European Game Convention that runs from August 23rd to 26th.

To quote the interview: “We prefer to make our big statements in Leipzig [Germany], it suits us much better. Yes it has been a bit of a slow summer, but we feel that we have kept the momentum going. There will be absolute fireworks at peak, that I can promise you. We will be doing things no-one has seen yet for both PS3 and PSP,” he told MCV.

WiiConnect24 has had minimal use since the console’s launch last year, but the surprises Nintendo promised at last year’s E3 are “still coming”.

Nintendo of American president Reggie Fils-Aime said: “We announced at E3 [this year] a new channel: the Check Mii Out Channel. And we still have plans… The surprise is coming… by the end of September. I think you’ll like this surprise.” Here’s the E3 Gamehead interview he said it in.
What annoys me about the interview is that while originally Nintendo said Super Smash Bros. Brawl would be online and available at the Wii launch, they now won’t even confirm if it’s online. Maybe the surprise will be more online games.
