Today Nintendo of Europe (and Australia) added new classic games to the popular Wii Shop Channel. The games went live at midnight CET. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at stores like Amazon UK (Card).

The original Metroid, which we reviewed for NES, blasts onto the Virtual Console in PAL regions. See how the story of Samus Aran began! Metroid, the NES platform shooter from 1987, now comes to Virtual Console.
Metroid was a truly ground-breaking game that established the famous trademarks of the hit series: massive environments, upgradeable weapons and suits, and the famous Morph Ball ability.
Complete the game in less than 5 hours and you’ll see the moment when players first discovered Samus’s true identity!
Aside from Metroid (which Americans/Canadians can probably expect on Monday), Europe and Australia also received the SNES game Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting and the TurboGrafx16 title Silent Debuggers on the Wii Virtual Console today. On top of that Australia is catching up with the rest of the world’s TurboGrafx games by receiving Splatterhouse and Dragon’s Curse.
