Nintendo says WiiWare new game download service could be available in 2007

Wii Shop Channel game selection
WiiWare is a game-creation service that will allow developers large and small to create new downloadable games for sale through the Wii Shop Channel. WiiWare paves the way for smaller, more creative games to make their way to the public at lower prices, without any inventory risk to developers.

When it was first announced, WiiWare games were said to arrive in early 2008. Now George Harrison, Vice President of Nintendo of America, has said that Nintendo’s WiiWare service could actually still arrive in late 2007. To quote: “It may not take until 2008. I’ve seen a couple of ideas that have already been generated even before we went public [with WiiWare]. Whether those are going to be ready or not, I don’t really know,” he said. He could be referring to Austrian developer Bplus, who were the first to announced they were an Nintendo official developer, making a puzzle shooter game Plattchen Twist ‘n’ Paint.

When Gamedaily pressed him about WiiWare possibly taking off in 2007, he further explained: “It really depends on the developers. If they have their games ready and they’re of an appropriate quality, then there’s nothing to stop them from launching before the end of the year. It’s just the fact that we only recently gave out the development tools and the development specifications, so most people haven’t even started yet.”
