Manhunt 2 fans get thanks from Rockstar, horror game not cancelled

It looks like you can still pre-order Manhunt 2 at AmazonRockstar Games has recently sent out an email to several fans for their support and concerns with the release of Manhunt 2. The game was recently refused certification in the United Kingdom, prohibited in Ireland, and denied a Mature rating and instead given an Adults Only rating in the United States.

Rockstar thanks fans in an email received by Strategyinformer. To quote: “We wanted to thank everyone who has taken the time to contact us about Manhunt 2, which we had been planning to release on PlayStation 2, PSP and Nintendo Wii. As you know, Manhunt 2 was effectively banned around much of the world, after it was refused certification in the United Kingdom, prohibited in Ireland, and denied an M rating in the United States.

We are very proud of Manhunt 2 and believe it builds on what the team accomplished with the first title in the series. The game was developed as a horror experience, and to be an M rated title, aligning it with similar horror content created in other forms of media. Unlike many other people, we do not think video games should be singled out for special treatment from the authorities. We hope to have more information for you soon, but in the meantime, we wanted you to know how much we value all of your messages of support.”

Supreme Commander 2: Forged Alliance, PC sequel to last-year’s RTS hit, coming this November

Supreme Commander for PCIt wasn’t really a matter of if (despite all the director’s console talk), but rather when, the sequel Supreme Commander 2 would be announced. And now it’s official.

Publisher THQ has announced Supreme Commander 2: Forged Alliance, which is the follow-up to Gas Powered Games’ extremely successful PC strategic-zooming RTS that was released last holiday and set the standard for scope & scale in Real-Time Strategy games, by allowing the player to fully zoom in and out at any point on the map.

Forged Alliance features over 100 new units (including fully realized navies, orbital weaponry and advanced counter intelligence technologies), a new single-player campaign, and an entirely new faction taking up arms in the Infinite War, as was hinted at by events in the first installment.

Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire hack-and-slash action game announced for Nintendo Wii

An all new hack and slash action game called Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire has been announced for release this fall on the Nintendo Wii. Giving Wii owners a chance to play with dragons like their Playstation 3 counterparts, although this game isn’t quite Lair, but still it looks cool!

Published by D3Publisher of America (D3PA), it’s a third-person action game which allows players to directly control “the powers of a dragon” via the Wiimote and Nunchuck. Attacks include using claws, wings, tail and fire breath to destroy enemies and fight giant bosses in more than 20 unique environments in 6 different worlds.

The game looks pretty fun to me, check out the fire-fighting action in the debut trailer for Dragon Blade: Wrath of Fire.

Dragon’s Lair DS coming for Nintendo’s portable with unique features and touch-screen support

Dragon's Lair DSThe oft-ported Dragon’s Lair is now coming to the DS with the eloquently named Dragon’s Lair DS. However this version has some unique features that might make it worth more than a passing look. And maybe even a buy for those who never got to play Dragon’s Lair or one of it’s many versions.

In addition to featuring touch-screen support (which would be expected for a DS version) you can also play it in a “book-style” mode (like Brain Age or Hotel Dusk) where the picture extends over both screens, or you can play it in single-screen mode. It will also feature support for both the mic and the Rumble Pak accessory, which are always nice to have.

You can play it in either Home or Arcade modes, Article continues »

Blue Dragon Xbox 360 RPG from Mistwalker gets early European release date of August 24th, U.S. 28th

Blue Dragon for Xbox 360One of the biggest titles for the Xbox 360 is Mistwalker’s upcoming RPG Blue Dragon. And as Mistwalker director and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi said previously in an interview, Blue Dragon has a release date of this August. But now, finally, we have a day to go along with that month.

Blue Dragon will be releasing in Europe first on August 24th, and then hitting the U.S. four days later on the 28th.

So get ready to fill those end-days of summer with some RPG gaming! I personally can’t wait to play Blue Dragon due to it’s standard RPG formula, a formula I’ve thoroughly enjoyed throughout the years, and with the power of the 360 (giving us incredible graphics) and the game’s concept, it looks like I’ll definitely enjoy this one.

Blizzard hopeful Starcraft Ghost will be revived in the future

Starcraft Ghost NovaBlizzard’s third-person shooter action game Starcraft Ghost was moved from developer to developer twice, between it’s announcement for consoles in 2002, and before being put on hold “indefinitely” in March 2006. Blizzard vice president of game design, Rob Pardo, (the lead designer of World of Warcraft) talked at an MMO panel at the Hollywood and Games Summit. Discussed was that Blizzard being willing to cancel games that just aren’t working out, even six months after inception. To quote:

“Our most recent one was Starcraft Ghost. With that game we were very stubborn. I still believe in that game and the characters [the main character was a woman, Nova] but we were not able to execute at the level we wanted to… Rather than work on that we had to focus on our other games. We’re hoping one day to return to it.”

This doesn’t mean the RTS spin-off Starcraft Ghost is under development again, but as Nextgen mentions, the fact that it’s still on Mr. Pardo’s mind leaves hope to the drooling hordes of fans who were crushed when the game was cancelled back in March 2006. At the moment Blizzard has its hands full right now with a number of projects like Starcraft 2.
