Sega, Bandai-Namco, and Capcom shift focus from PSP and PS3 to DS and Wii
Major game companies such as Sega, Bandai-Namco, and Capcom have told the Nikkei Shimbun (run it through Babelfish) that they are shifting their software development focus from Sony platforms (PSP, PS3) to Nintendo platforms (DS, Wii).
As we reported earlier today, the Nintendo brand is valued more than Sony‘s, as the demand for the Wii keeps rising. Last month (May 2007) the Wii outsold the PS3 by 4 to 1 in America and 5 to 1 in Japan. Hopefully we’ll start seeing what all this support entails at E4A (the new E3) that runs from July 10 till 13.
A rough translation of the last paragraph tells us the game companies are recognizing the growing audience for Nintendo’s systems, and as a result are rapidly starting development of new games (new work, to be exact) for them. On the other hand, they still see the PS3 brand as highly recognizable and will continue development for it as they expect its userbase to expand over time. — Via Neogaf
PS: Square-Enix even went as far as to say they won’t publish a PS3 game in Japan until at least April 1st, 2008. So it’s safe to say it’ll take even longer outside of Japan.
