Earthworm Jim 2Back in May 2006 Atari announced Shiny Entertainment was at work on an Earthworm Jim (EWJ) 3D side-scrolling platformer for PSP. 1UP mentioned the game was around 80% complete in August 2006 and set for release in winter 2006. Not even half a year later in October 2006 Atari sold Shiny Entertainment yet still claiming EWJ was in development.

Now PSPfanboy wondered what happened to the game’s release and contacted Alissa Bell from Atari, who commented: “I believe EWJ is off the roster. May be revisited in the future, but the title is, as I hear it, on hold.” She added: “I don’t believe Atari will be focusing on PSP titles at E3.” In other words it’s put on hold indefinitely, which usually comes down to a cancellation.

The game was supposed to feature open level designs with puzzles, power-ups, zany environments, and an expanded arsenal of moves and attacks would’ve been available in the single player and two-player competition modes. All we’re left with now is this video preview:
No saving Princess-What’s-Her-Name again, it seems.
