Resistance Maps instead of PlayStation Network games for America today, meanwhile Europe goes Nucleus

We emailed Sony Online Entertainment today to see if there are any downloadable games coming to America and that wasn’t the case. To quote: “We aren’t going to be releasing any downloads this week, I will keep you updated as future announcements come up.”

Europeans, on the other hand, are the first to get the PlayStation Network game Nucleus this week, at a price of €7.99. The game takes place in a human-body environment that’s made to look as though it’s seen through a microscope. In Kuju’s shooter you pilot a tiny jellyfish-type thing called a “remote unit” with which you squirt, shoot, and deploy protein bombs, as well as using a tractor beam of sorts to push and drag cells that can be linked together to form a shield.

Today’s Resistance map pack update Resistance: Fall Of Man for PS3(so far only confirmed for Japan & America, and coming to Europe shortly after) will enable worldwide gameplay and allow players for $7.99 (€4.49 / £3.99) to purchase and download the two new multiplayer maps by accessing the PlayStation Store (even in-game). Insomniac Games has created two fresh maps to provide players with an entirely different feel from the maps released with the packaged game.

In a video interview last month they show the new maps:

One of the maps is set in Westmorland, England where players will find the struggle against the Chimera continues among the snowy hills of northern Great Britain. The other map is set in Camborn, England where once again the British Resistance battles the Chimera. In Camborn, players will be able to take part in both above-ground and subterranean combat. The story behind the new maps is told as an extension of the backstory presented on the Resistance: Fall of Man website.

The update also expands Resistance: Fall of Man by allowing players globally the choice to challenge one another. Players from around the world now will be able to hop online with one another and establish new friends and potential opponents. Leaderboards on www.myresistance.net will be filterable by region, and each territory will retain the ability to make announcements and hold events that are targeted to their players.

Additionally the update includes upgrades to team play:
1. Your teammates their names will stand out more, as to not confuse them with the enemy so much
2. More skins will be added to also distinguish your team more;
3. Your PSN buddy list can be integrated into your Resistance buddy list;
4. In-game cheater reporting will be added.
That’s about it.

June 8 update: Sorry folks, Insomniac had to do some more tweaking on the Resistance update and Map Pack, so they are yet again delayed one week. 🙁

Another update, it now turns out Europe didn’t get Nucleus as a downloadable game this week, but instead Mortal Kombat II, which for a short time will only cost €2.99.
