Mega Man creator wants new next-gen Mega Man Legends 3

Mega Man‘s 20th anniversary is this year. So Capcom are celebrating with new games like Mega Man ZX Advent and Mega Man Star Force.

Take a look at this interview where Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune discussed the future of the Mega Man series. Be careful as 2:00 to 2:15 minutes in the story the endings to Mega Man Zero and Battle Network 6 are mentioned. Here’s the Mega Man creator video:


When he was asked by 1UP if he could think about things not as a financially responsible producer and instead as a gamer, he admitted that he really would like to create a next-gen Mega Man Legends 3.

To quote him: “If I was able to make a sequel without having to worry about money in any shape or form, I think it probably would be Mega Man Legends 3. And that’s not just me — a lot of the original team members would also love to make a sequel. They talk about it. I talk about it sometimes. I know they love that series and so do I. If I were to say right now, I have a tiny, tiny, tiny dream that I wish I could realize, but I don’t know if it’s possible, it would be to do a sequel in the Legends series. The framework that we used for our next-gen titles, creating it was not easy — it took talented individuals. One was the main programmer on Mega Man Legends. He said, while creating it, he was envisioning how Lost Planet would fit in it, and how Dead Rising would fit, and on top of that, now ‘any time you want to make a Mega Man Legends game with this framework, it’s ready. All I need is the go and we can slap Mega Man in there.’”

Update November 10, 2008: Capcom’s Minoru Nakai was also asked by 411mania if there were any plans for a Mega Man Legends (AKA Rockman Dash in Japan) sequel. He answered: “Certainly we hear this question a lot. People are really looking forward to the day when we finally do get a chance to do a sequel, especially one for Rockman DASH. There’s a lot of people, myself included, who want to make the sequels, but you really have to weigh the capacity of the company and look at all the other games that we’re involved in creating right now, and right now it seems like the capacity and the timing isn’t quite right for that sequel, but there are a lot of people who really want to make one, so it’s certainly something to think about, but not right at this moment.”
