SEGA today announced an exclusive agreement with Mondo Media to create video game content based on the popular animated series, Happy Tree Friends. Mind you, it’s dark comedy. Currently under development by Stainless Studios, Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm is scheduled for release via digital download on PC and Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade in Fall 2007.
Happy Tree Friends is a wildly popular Internet phenomenon that debuted as a television series on G4 TV in the U.S. and on MTV overseas. Selling over one million DVD copies worldwide, Happy Tree Friends has a big online audience and is the top 10 most downloaded podcast on iTunes.

Sony Online Entertainment has just revealed a new downloadable title for the PlayStation Network. The much too awkwardly titled “High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition” will be released this summer on the PS3 download service for $9.99. Play modes including Texas Hold’em, Super Hold’em, Billabong, Tahoe and Shanghai. Each style can be played as limit, pot limit or no limit poker.
The greatest draw for the title will be its online multiplayer, with up to six people playing at once. Players will be able to play quick matches, or choose to play through an entire season. There will be online leader boards, in-depth statistics, and customizable characters. Over time, players will be able to collect points and unlock new items for their characters.
One of the unique features of the game has to be its integration with cameras.

Disney Interactive has announced they will be bringing the arcade classics Tron and Discs of Tron to the Xbox Live Arcade this Summer. Tron should be a familiar name to gamers all over, it was the first movie to use computer graphics and the first movie about video games.
Both games are in development at Backbone Entertainment and will feature enhanced graphics (along with an “original mode”) and online play. Each game has been rated E for Everyone.

Today Nintendo of Europe (and Australia) add two new classic games to the popular Wii Shop Channel. The games went live at midnight CET. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at stores like Amazon UK (Card).
These games will probably go live in the USA next Monday!

Ninja Spirit (TurboGrafx16, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points = €6 / £4.50 / AU$9): Irem Soft’s Ninja Spirit is a side-scrolling action game from 1990 that amazed the gaming world with its precision graphics and quality gameplay. Play as the ninja Moonlight, engaged in a fierce battle to avenge his father’s death and unlock the secrets of his birth.
Select between the original Arcade Mode and PC-Engine Mode, which includes a life gauge. Use four types of weapons: kusarigama, katana, shuriken and bombs to battle your way through the enemies. Grab power-up items and switch between weapons to give yourself an advantage. You’ll need to consider the enemy’s attacks and your weapon’s abilities in order to deftly make it through all seven stages.
Use your skills and attacks to defeat the game’s boundless enemies and traps. That’s what ninja action is all about!
