In a conference call to discuss Electronic Arts’ financial results, they said that Will Wright’s highly anticipated evolution sim, Spore, is no longer in the company’s plans for the current fiscal year, which ends in March 2008. Most in the industry had expected the game to be released later in 2007, perhaps in time for the holiday shopping season. But it won’t be in 2007, at the earliest Spore will be released in April 2008, but EA has said the game could be delayed until the fiscal year 2009 that starts in April 2009! Recently Spore has received a final release date of September 7th, 2008, on PC, Mac and DS.

The game probably needs to evolve a little more. ;)

You’re probably a little sad about this news, let’s try and cheer you up with comedian Robin Williams demoing Spore.

The delay is in the hands of EA. They are the ones holding the game hostage just because they want to focus on a selling prime time. What they are failing to understand is that this game would have broken sales records over a year ago, the fan base is peaking already and now the patient community is growing restless.

Spore has had very little information released considering the size of the project and the anticipation around it. Check their site and see just how frequently they do updates. Compare that to any other game in development right now. I can’t help but wonder why.

I only hope they don’t put so many delays on this game that it becomes financially impractical to actually release. People have been getting paychecks for working on this game and the project has gone on for a long time….they are just digging a deeper hole to climb out of before they can get into the black.

I heard it was being released on March 3, 2008. What’s with this April 09 stuff?

wel from what ive seen, the thing that is taking them so long is the actual content. they have to make 2000000 planets and 1000′s of creatures, plants, veh, and buildings so it might take a while…..

but this game has been delayed for 2 years and they completly redid the cell stage. they messed up big time.
