Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time feature movie to be filmed by Transformers director Michael Bay for a summer 2010 release

Jerry Bruckheimer has been busy with his CSI TV show and Pirates of the Caribbean movie trilogy, but still has been working hard to get other film franchises off the ground. IESB reports that his upcoming film, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, will be directed by Michael Bay right after he’s done with this Summer’s blockbuster, Transformers. Bruckheimer & Bay previously teamed up on Bad Boys I and II, The Rock, Armageddon, Pearl Harbor.
This feature film adaptation is “based on the video game, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world.†The original creator of the game, Jordan Mechner, has said that “Rather than do a straight beat-for-beat adaptation of the new videogame, we’re taking some cool elements from the game and using them to craft a new story – much as ‘Pirates’ [of the Caribbean] did with the theme park ride.”

It’s great to see the game’s creator so heavily involved. Mr. Mechner wrote the first draft of the screenplay for the feature film with subsequent drafts by Jeffrey Nachmanoff.
Originally developed and published Ubisoft, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is a third person action adventure video game that received widespread critical acclaim. The Sands of Time is the first of a trilogy. Released in 2003, it was followed by Prince of Persia 2: Warrior Within in 2004 and Prince of Persia 3: The Two Thrones in 2005. As a fourth game in the renewed series (not counting PoP 1, 2 & 3D) Prince of Persia 4 is likely to follow in 2007 or 2008. While the movie was originally said to come out in summer 2008, sadly it’s now scheduled to be released in summer 2009 or 2010 even. Yep, it’s going to be a while…
