New World of Warcraft Northrend-based expansion pack expected
A file with the directory name “expansion02″ on new the Testrealms of World of Warcraft patch 2.1.0 has revealed a map of Northrend, as you can see in the above screenshot. Also in the directory were textures from the homeland of the Furbolgs and Tuskarr as well as the Howling of Fjord.
Northrend was always expected to be in a future expansion pack because it is visible in the World of Warcraft World Map when zoomed out all the way. A hint from the game’s team has referenced the continent by saying: “Player must be at least level 80 before they can face Arthas.”
In the fictional Warcraft Universe, Northrend is the frozen continent found at the roof of the world of Azeroth. The entirety of the continent is ruled by the The Undead Scourge, and is their seat of power. The Lich King himself sits atop his Frozen Throne on Icecrown Glacier. Expect an official announcement on game developer Blizzard’s Blizzcon 2007 on August 3 & 4.
