Dragon Ball Online game coming as Korean PC MMORPG

Dragon Ball manga/anime series creator Akira Toriyama is personally supervising the development of Dragon Ball Online with Bandai and Bandai Korea. An open beta test is promised for this PC game in the first half of this year. So get ready for many clone SuperSaiyanGoku9000 usernames.

The player becomes the hero of the Dragon Ball world and will be able to enjoy this Dragon Ball game to resemble the original work closely. The game graphics will look like the original cartoon thanks to 3D cel-shading. To play the game smoothly, the minimum system requirements are set at a Pentium 4 2GHz with 512MB RAM.

The following may be a rusty translation, but there’s also mention of it being “the first game that mixes martial arts and raw fish together” and “in PVP battles a weaker player can hide from the character with the strongest power level.” I guess that’s a handy DBZ move “the coward runs away!”

Other upcoming games with Akira’s involvement, as a character designer, are Dragon Quest Swords for the Wii and Dragon Quest IX for the Nintendo DS. Via Thisisgame

I am going to be SO Pissed if they either make it where there are like, 40 gokus. They better either make it where you make your own character, or each server can only have one of the shows characters. FOr example, one tien, one goku, one vegeta.
If you want those characters, you will need to go to another server.

they should give the avatars of the main characters from the shows to the top beta testers or in competitions (sort of like what they did in /hack.sign LoT twilight)

I really don’t get all the haters out there that keep bashing this game. As a long time Dragon Ball fan I have been hoping and praying that this game would come out eventually. Dragon Ball was an incredible show and just plain fun to watch. DBZ was good until Toriyama was phased out. And as we ALL know GT sucked and should never had existed. (If you don’t know, Akira Toriyama (the creator of DB & DBZ) created Dragon Ball based on an old Japanese legend with a new spin. Dragon Ball was his baby and after it finished he created Dragon Ball Z to finish the Legacy of Goku (which explains the Z to signify the end). The way he meant for the show to end was to kill Goku when Namek exploded; dying for his cause. Hence the scene of Goku screaming in the last episode of the Frieza saga. This was meant to be the ending to a brilliant story. Unfortunately, the show had gained so much popularity that the producing studio’s urged Toriyama to keep the show alive. Sadly, when he refused, he was slowly phased out of the show he had created and images were spliced back into that last episode (like Goku seeing a space pod). After that, the show went down the tubes; recieving the shows record lows in ratings in Japan. GT was purely for money & it sucked.) Anyway back to the game! I am EXTREMELY excited b/c Toriyama has resumed creative control and is overseeing the project. Which is probably why he placed it 200 years after the end of GT; so he could dismantle GT forever. That’s something he should be proud of. So my point is, give him a chance. He created an amazing show before it was ruined and he is finally getting it back on track. I think he’ll do it well and I can’t wait! Why even talk crap? Toriyama, you are the man and I am a true fan of your work. Welcome back.

OMFG I wish I was Korean…. I want to play the game. LoL, I know they just released Season 1 in america, and of course my wife got it for me for me birthday =D I can’t wait for season 2. But hey i am 22yr’s old and love MMO’s and I’m with The Ox King, I have been waiting for this game since well….when I started playing EQ when it came out. I hope they bring it to America Soon.
