PS3 games have cheaper pricing in Europe

A European Sony PS3Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has announced a price point of €59.99 (£39.99) for its first-party launch line-up in Europe. This includes their flagship PS3 games like Resistance: Fall of Man, Motorstorm, Genji, Formula One, and Ridge Racer 7. That’s a €10/£10 saving on new PS3 games compared to first-party games from Xbox 360 competitor Microsoft and on par with Nintendo Wii’s game pricing.

As for downloadable PlayStation Network titles, PS3 games like Lemmings, Blast Factor, Go! Sudoku, Go! Puzzle, Super Rub a Dub, Gripshift, flOw, and Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection will be available at launch on March 23rd at prices ranging from €2.99 to €9.99.

David Reeves, SCEE president and CEO, said: “Not only will it be completely free to register on the PlayStation Network with no subscription fees and access to many free demos [and free games like Gran Turismo HD], but with these competitive prices for additional content we are able to offer the consumer both top quality games on Blu-ray discs and a whole range of downloadable content from the PlayStation Network. — With over 30 first and third party disc and network games available at launch, we are confident that this will be one of the most successful launches of all time.”

What the Sony boss forgot to mention was that the first 500,000 people to register their PS3 on the PlayStation Network after launch will get a free copy of the newest James Bond film Casino Royale on Blu-ray! — Also, the cheaper pricing might go a long way in making up for the PAL version of the console not including full backwards compatibility for PS2 games. Last week Sony announced the PS2 hardware chips were taking out and replaced with incomplete software emulation that’ll be updating via firmware updates at launch and beyond. So no full backwards compatibility at first, but cheaper future games instead.

Thats great to hear!

Finally Sony doing some good thing in their marketing dept.

If you are comparing the PS3 games with the price of the 360 games in Europe then that is COMPLETE Rubbish I have never seen a 360 game at £49.99p and even games like LOST PLANET LIMITED EDITION is £39.99p and Crackdown with HALO 2 Beta £39.99p etc i.e -
shop.gameplay.co.uk/ …

And why dont people just get the film with the PS3 pack instead of registering on their network isnt that going to make it look like there is a whole lot more people using their network than actually really are ?

Also missing the fact that the PS3 is far more expensive than its US and Japanese version Despite losing the PS2 hardware.

If that is a FREE copy Blu Ray Film then I take it Sony are NOT going to include this HALF A MILLION copys as sales when they put up how many Blu Ray films have been “SOLD” this year?.

ret, you are wrong. While online stores may discount Xbox 360 games like Lost Planet, their retail (in-store) prices are indeed £49.99. It’s the stores lowering prices, not Microsoft.

We also don’t make a habit about whining on about how much more expensive the PS3 is in Europe, all game hardware and software is more expensive in Europe compared to the US/Japan and we linked to an article already going into detail about that.

teri, I imagine they would add those number to the sales count, but does that really matter to you? I don’t understand how you can make a pessimistic point about PS3 owners registering their system online to get a freebie.
