Prince of Persia movie set to be Disney’s next blockbuster franchise starting summer 2008 (moved to 2010)

This May the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie sees Captain Barbossa, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann make their final alliances for one last decisive battle. So what’s next for Disney?

According to Disney blogger Jim Hill The Walt Disney Company has gone franchise-crazy lately, with sequels being prepped and/or considered for virtually every project the studio currently has in its production pipeline. To quote:

“This is why Walt Disney Pictures — in conjunction with Jerry Bruckheimer Films — is now gearing up to put a “Prince of Persia” movie into production. Because it’s thought that a film based on this hugely popular series of Ubisoft Entertainment games (Which — in theory — will be Disney’s big action-adventure release for the Summer of 2008) could then lead to a new hit series of movies for the studio.” [The movie has since been moved to Summer 2010.]

The first blockbuster movie will likely be based on the excellent video game Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, which follows an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. — One big question is which actors will play the prince and princess? Another big question is asked by 1up, and it’s if like back in 2004, the original Prince of Persia game designer Jordan Mechner will still be writing the script?

i hope it translates the way i want it to. hopefully they will make the palace have the sense of scale that the game had.

if disney is doing the whole trilogy, will these be the first r-rated movies for disney, or will they have to omit the content from the second and third games that makes them rated M. i’d like the trilogy done, but not at the expense of it sucking

this movie will be the best movie in the history…..
but what about actor…
and am sure that what John Abraham will be perfect for this role……

The idea is great, but I hope that the makers will be able to produce a movie that at the very least will match the greatness of POP games. I have played POP 1-3 and watched my two sons play the 4-6, so POP to us is a family matter.

I don’t care who plays him as long as he is actually Persian. Not Brazilian like in 300, or Black, Indian, Italian, Chinese, White etc in the other hollywood movies so far, god damn it just let an actual Persian play the role of a Persian for once.
