In Nintendo Wii’s Virtual Console download service, you can get classics from the NES (Famicom), TurboGrafx-16 (PC Engine), Sega Genesis (Mega Drive), SNES (Super Famicom), and Nintendo 64.

MSX Virtual Console logoIn September 2006 Nintendo of Japan showed the MSX will be joining that list in 2007 and now Eggy and Aleste (from D4 Enterprise) will become available at a price of 800 Wii Points ($8/€8) in Spring 2007.

The Wii Virtual Console will be getting its first two American PC games Jewel Quest II and Sproink (from iWin/21 Rocks) in Q1 2007 as well.

NEOGEO Virtual Console logoToday Nintendo of Japan showed the Neo Geo logo on their Wii Virtual Console page, confirming SNK Playmore will start its support with Neo Geo games in the summer of 2007! No pricing or specific games were announced, nor does anyone know if MSX and Neo Geo games will become available to Americans, Europeans, etc. All we know is that everyone wants Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury, and the King of Fighters series badly. The reason why I like the idea of playing those games on Xbox Live Arcade rather than the Wii, is because even Xbox Live Arcade games get upgraded to high-definition, and they often include new graphics not found in the original. New features such as online play are also added…So, that is why I would LOVE the chance to play some of those old classic Neo Geo games on the Xbox Live Arcade.

I want Neo Geo games on Xbox Live Arcade!!!!!!!

Yeah. I totally think that Nintendo should, after they release games already, release updates to them, so that if you want to play the regular direct-emulation version, then you can, but if you want to play an updated version, or say be able to play Mario Kart 64 online, then you can just purchase a patch that adds online play.

This would actually be the best of both worlds, because those that don’t want their game changed can have the original, but those that want some updates, maybe cause they already own it, would be able to play something new or improved.

I also hope that MSX and Neo Geo games come to the US. There’s really no excuse to keep cutting the world out of some of these games. We want them too!

Wasn’t PS3 going to MSX downloadable games? or was it canned?

and yeah, it would be cool is Wii had upgraded emulations.

Actually, no Sony just used MSX and Sega games as an “example” of what the Playstation Store could offer. So no, it was never official.
