The Elder Scrolls V possibly a Massively Multiplayer Online Game

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (DVD-ROM)The creators of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda Softworks, only focus their studio on one game at a time. Next up for them is Fallout 3. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t talking about a sequel to Oblivion. Bethesda Softworks’ VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines told 1up the following about the years-away Elder Scrolls V:

“Well, I can tell you that since Oblivion has been such a smashing success that I’m sure we will do [Elder Scrolls V], but there are no immediate plans right now,” said Hines. As for what form Elder Scrolls V would take, that’s still up in the air. A Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) seems a natural, evolutionary step for the series, but while Hines doesn’t suggest that’s a direction for Elder Scrolls V, the possibility of a new game has been bounced around. He doubts, however, they would go forward unless they had a “fresh idea” for the genre.

The Elder Scrolls MMORPG would suck, in my humble opinion. If they go in such a direction, they might as well change the franchise because quite frankly, The Elder Scrolls is all about a deep, immersive, atmospheric single player experience.

    Say no to MMO!

They should make the Arena Multiplayer but nothing else

There are enough MMO’s now and surely will be more in the future. I agree with Louis. When you play a Massive Multiplayer Online, you happen to see a million other players that are doing the SAME THING. What I mean is that in an isolated game, YOU are the one doing the work and ONLY YOU. No other characters in that universe are doing the task you are. Take WoW, for instance. Not too bad a game, especially if you can see the underlying aspects of the game like making social situations a reality and not just a virtual thing with no human contact as well as teaching complexities such as supply and demand through the Auction House system. BUT – When you get right down to it, everyone is doing the same thing. You run around only to encounter 45 different people online doing the same quest you are. Frustrating, especially when there are so many other ppl playing that it takes that much longer to finish the quest. IE: You need 12 scales of a certain fish to advance the quest. Yeah? So does EVERYONE ELSE THERE!!! lol. This is another reason I believe any future ES games should stay single player. Not that I wouldn’t enjoy, say, making the arena multiplayer as Random above suggested. Possibly even using the Henchman Co-Op system to be employed in the near future with Fable II. Long story short (I could go on for hours, lol) if Bethesda turns the Elder Scrolls franchise into an MMORPG, quite simply: I’M OUT. I won’t even try it. Well, maybe I’ll watch someone else play it. . . PwAbOg.

I heard a rumor (unconfirmed) that in elder scrolls V, you will be able to command your own army, and travel between the lands in Oblivion and Morrowind. Like I said, unconfirmed, but I heard it from two sources that don’t even know eachother.

Ok i don’t agree with any of you. Elder Scrolls 5 i mean comon i think we need a little more in our gameplay it’s been the same for all the Elder Scrolls Series me and my brother {the 4 of us} think it would be alot better adn that this would attract alot more people to the Elder Scrolls that would be 99.99% true

I’ve been playing Elder Scrolls games since the beginning. It would totally ruin it for me if Elder Scrolls V was an MMORPG. I have nothing against that type of game, but I don’t play Elder Scrolls games for that.

If that is the only way you can play Elder Scrolls V, I won’t buy it. On the other hand, if that is a choice and I can still play by myself or with another friend or two, I might consider it.

I think think they should just make i 2 – 4 player online coop. thats deffiently enough i dont need nor want 1000 people running around everywhere i go killling everything before i do and make it to where every person that joins my private online sesion then the difficulty goes up on all mosters creatures and by +1 example: i set it on easy if a friend joins its easy x2 so it would be beween medium or hard, example: hard mode x2 mean its as if they added the bar lenght all over agian and its 2x longer than that of oblivion and thats ur difficulty

Co-op up to 4 players would be cool. Nothing more. I love the elder scroll series but there are times I wish a friend would come and play along.

  • Andy

yeah it should stick with single player action and i hope myself that you can choose to do evil missions or good ones rather than having to be the good guy all the time

  • Steve

Oblivion be cool as split screen or a maximum of 16 players but it should not be like WOW or Runescape if you ask me
