The Elder Scrolls V possibly a Massively Multiplayer Online Game

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (DVD-ROM)The creators of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda Softworks, only focus their studio on one game at a time. Next up for them is Fallout 3. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t talking about a sequel to Oblivion. Bethesda Softworks’ VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines told 1up the following about the years-away Elder Scrolls V:

“Well, I can tell you that since Oblivion has been such a smashing success that I’m sure we will do [Elder Scrolls V], but there are no immediate plans right now,” said Hines. As for what form Elder Scrolls V would take, that’s still up in the air. A Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) seems a natural, evolutionary step for the series, but while Hines doesn’t suggest that’s a direction for Elder Scrolls V, the possibility of a new game has been bounced around. He doubts, however, they would go forward unless they had a “fresh idea” for the genre.

The game would be awesome if it were mmorpg. it would make it it that much better.

I for one hope The Elder Scrolls V will be single player, just like the previous 4 games.

MMORPG and single player games are two totally different things. There are already many MMORPG’s out there.

There aren’t a lot of good single player RPG’s, like Oblivion, out there though.

Having The Elder Scrolls V be a single player RPG with as long and advanced gameplay as IV would ROCK!

Elder Scrolls V doesn’t necessarily need to be a mmorpg. But it would be awesome to be able to link up online with atleast one of your friends to do quests together and battle it or even trade each other quest items. I’m sure the game will be Great though! Just sucks that it will be years before it comes out. I’m really ready for something as good as Oblivion.

The idea of taking the worlds best singleplayer RPG
and turn it into another crapy MMO would be
    heartbreaking.
The only online element in TES:V that I think would
work is online arena matches. But as for a MMO
    no way

I rely hope then it will be a singelplayer game,
If it’s online I only hope then it’s possile playing offline.

Just like boa said, The Elder Scrools IV – Oblivion (Game of the year edition) is the best single player RPG yet.It would disappoint the gamers if Bethesda Softworks turn it to a MMO!!! There are already lots fantasy based MMO like LOTR Online,Wow,Knight Online,Silkroad,2Moons…

I hope it can be both. Like, you can play the storyline with your custom cjharacter, or jump online and see the online world there too. though they are few and far between, games like that exdist, and I think it would be fun.. (the onlyone i can think of right now is Phantasy Star Universe but I know htere’s more)

This article makes no sense. The guy from Bethesda said “yeah we’re probably going to make Elder Scrolls V” and then the author of this article just makes up the idea that maybe it will be a MMORPG but tries to act like there’s some kind of justification behind saying it. Hines NEVER said it would or might be an MMORPG, and guess what? It DEFINITELY won’t be one. The author just made that up to get more website traffic.

Whoever wrote this is just an idiot, sorry.

I agree the author was out of order. He should’nt have got peoples hopes up especially Elder Scrolls Fanatics…so I agree with you Radish!!

I don’t think making it massive multiplayer would be all that good… but to just be able to have a couple of friends join in your world to go questing with would be awesome… there is so much to do in Oblivion and a lot of it would be great to have a friend by your side. I would be happy if they just made Oblivion multiplayer. It doesn’t have to be huge.
