The Elder Scrolls V possibly a Massively Multiplayer Online Game

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (DVD-ROM)The creators of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda Softworks, only focus their studio on one game at a time. Next up for them is Fallout 3. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t talking about a sequel to Oblivion. Bethesda Softworks’ VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines told 1up the following about the years-away Elder Scrolls V:

“Well, I can tell you that since Oblivion has been such a smashing success that I’m sure we will do [Elder Scrolls V], but there are no immediate plans right now,” said Hines. As for what form Elder Scrolls V would take, that’s still up in the air. A Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) seems a natural, evolutionary step for the series, but while Hines doesn’t suggest that’s a direction for Elder Scrolls V, the possibility of a new game has been bounced around. He doubts, however, they would go forward unless they had a “fresh idea” for the genre.

I like how everyone’s freaking out about this when the only mention of ES5 as an MMO comes from the 1UP story itself. It’s almost like they’re making up headlines…huh.

    1up is a rampant fanboy-driven site.

well if you played as far in as the end of the main questline there is some subtle hinting that it may very well could be. “when the next elderscrolls is written…”

Man this sucks, we need a multiplayer eddition. The web has no links or broken links for multiplayer, maybe some day…

The best way to kill the TES franchise would be to make it an MMO. That being said, they’ve been good so far about resisting the temptation. I hope they continue to do so and make TES: V a single-player game.

I think they would be dumb not make it an MMORPG, we live in a wired world, and people want to connect with each other. Thats why social networking sites like myspace and facebook are so popular. I play WOW and I would probably quit playing it if TES went online. Heres what I do with single player games, I beat them and then I rarely ever play them again, and thats exactly what I did with Oblivion. But that’s just my opinion.

TES is first person Rpg’s and they should stay that way, thou I do think TES would becoma a great MMORPG, but it would also kinda destroy the feelig you get from playing through TES, you know the feeling were you feel you are the great hero, you are the one who destroyed the lair of necromancers who terrorised that village, not the one amongst thousands that have done the same quest.
    But that’s just my opinion.

why not just use the same format Bioware did with their epic rpg? (NWN)

the multiplayer was like a mini mmo on some servers and more like a co-op on others. I wished so hard for a co-op mode for IV but it never happened :(
