Star Wars: Force Unleashed on Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, PSP and DS in November 2007

Star Wars: Lethal Alliance is the latest game in the seriesThe American Game Informer magazine’s latest issue brings the first details of LucasArts’ PS3 and Xbox 360 Star Wars project. The game’s title is Star Wars: Force Unleashed. And PS2, PSP and DS versions are also underway from a different unknown developer. No word on a Wii version, but the Wii Remote controller would be perfect as a Lightsaber.

Star Wars: Force Unleashed and takes place between Episode III and Episode IV, when the new Sith Lord Darth Vader is out to wipe the galaxy clean of runaway Jedi. As Vader’s apprentice, you’re on a secret mission to dive head-first into the forbidden Dark Side of the force, take out the emperor and rule the galaxy as master and apprentice.

George Lucas is reported by C&VG as having a lot of input into the project, and has even helped design some of the characters. LucasArts promises to shake up the Star Wars lore with alternate endings in Unleashed, so the bad guys really can win!

Force Unleashed uses LucasArts’ much-touted Euphoria engine (also used in Indiana Jones 2007), which calculates environmental damage such as smashing crates in real-time. One given example of the tech is how a tree will either break in two or splinter realistically depending on how you hit it. Likewise, steel will dent appropriately when damage it with your Force powers.

And speaking of Force powers, many of the world-bending tricks from the E3 tech demo (shown below) are present in Force Unleashed, including the “cannon ball”-like force push, with controls presented in a similar vein to the excellent Psi-Ops.

One scene reportedly has you battling Jedi Knight Shaak Ti in the Jedi Temple, after the galaxy-wide order to exterminate of the Jedi. Aside from translating the release date for Star Wars: Force Unleashed is sometime November 2007, a Younewb reader expands on what the magazine is saying: “…you will get to fight Shaak Ti, and SHE has Rancors under control that will fight you. You may be even eaten by one and could destroy it from the inside using the Force.”

Sounds incredibly fun, let’s hope it plays like it. Feast your eyes on this Star Wars: Force Unleashed demo for now:
