Hellgate: London PC gameplay footage. Xbox 360 version possible

oblivion shivering isles shiny screenshotThe online action RPG Hellgate: London will be released on PC this summer. The first gameplay footage was filmed at a noisy venue, so 4gamer removed the audio and replaced it with a loud song, so you might want to turn your volume down if you want to see what the game plays like without going deaf.

To be honest, what’s shown looks really boring, which might be because it’s the first level. The Hellgate: London cut-scenes are certainly awesome (see at the bottom of this page). Hopefully developer Flagship Studios will release a trailer soon that shows off what the game really is about, like the dynamically generated levels, items, enemies and events that should deliver infinite playability.

Zach Karlsson, Namco Bandai’s director of business development, won’t confirm it, but he admits that: “it’s highly unlikely that such a notion is far from the company’s planning calendar.”

The interview concludes the company has a strange mix of game titles ranging from blockbuster game titles, to hardcore manga, to the Charlie Brown license. Perhaps Namco Bandai is seeking more games that hold the centre-ground of popular gaming, rather than those that sit at the fringes. Mr. Karlsson hinted at this by saying: “We have a bunch of new stuff coming up in 2008 which is going to be our biggest year. It’s indicative of our push into building new game titles and licenses.”

London, 2038. The once great city lies in ruins. A massive, sinister gash in the fabric of our reality gnarls and churns, dominating the horizon as it blends into a permanently darkened sky. The unspeakable cataclysm that befell London threatened to engulf the world as the shadow of the demons fell across the face of mankind. This is where the intro starts…
