Nintendo Revolution name changes to Wii

The Nintendo Revolution name is gone. Introducing… Wii. As in “we” or “wheeee!” :D Press play to see for yourself:


Why Wii we wonder, Nintendo explains: While the code-name “Revolution” expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down that wall that separates video game players from everybody else.

“The other systems have an extension of their current names; ours is a new leap to something different,” Perrin Kaplan, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs for Nintendo of America said “A lot of thought went into the name.”

So why announce the name now and not at the show? “By letting the gaming community vent now about the name, they will be less distracted as launch titles for the system are announced and initial reports about what it’s like to play the games begin to come in.”

PS2 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Special EditionPublic figures love to play the blame game, so how new media keeps corrupting our children is a topic that comes up often. There’s just one problem, it’s not true, because parents are responsible for raising their kids. Obviously we all know the trash-talking of U.S. senators in blaming videogames for violence in children, to quote “videogames desensitize them to death and destruction.”

I don’t know about you gamers, but I’m not less emotional towards violence then I was 10 years ago, and I played a lot of Grand Theft Auto games the past 8 years…

New puzzle goodness announced: 2 Lumines, 1 Meteos…

lumines plus ps2Buena Vista Games will publish Lumines Plus for the PlayStation 2. Lumines Plus will be a new version of the original handheld title, which will also get a sequel titled Lumines II on the PSP. Buena Vista Games will also publish two more forthcoming Q Entertainment puzzlers, Every Extend Extra (PSP) and the newly announced Meteos: Disney Edition (DS).

New Megaman ZX screenshots for DS

rockman zx dsCapcom’s official website for the upcoming Rockman ZX / Megaman ZX for the Nintendo DS has been relaunched. Since it’s all in Japanese, you’ll have to make due with the screenshots showing the gameplay details. But there’s an upcoming movies section as well, so if you’re a fan keep an eye out for that site.

Rockman ZX is set for a Japanese release on July 7th, Megaman ZX however has not yet been announced for a release outside Japan.

King of Fighters comes to Nintendo DS

XB King of Fighters 2002/2003IGN reports that at the recent MMBB Online Game Festa, a King of fighters tournament and demo event held by Online service provider KDDI on April 22 in Tokyo, KOF series producer Falcoon announced that details on a DS version of King of Fighters would be announced in the near future.

That’s all the man said. For now, take this as confirmation that a DS version of the classic arcade franchise is in development.

Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam comes to DS & Revolution

PSP Tony Hawks Underground 2The latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine says that the Tony Hawk: Downhill Jam for the Revolution, will be a Nintendo exclusive on the Revolution and DS.

In the Revolution version of the game, the unique controller will be used to allow movement without pressing any buttons! Gamers will be able to skate aroud, tilting the remote to turn without the need for any other controls. Buttons will only be used to perform tricks.

Sega announces Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz for Revolution

Super Monkey Ball DXSega announced Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz as an “exclusive” for the Nintendo Revolution. The game will be a true sequel to Super Monkey Ball and Super Monkey Ball 2 and not just a spin-off like Super Monkey Ball Adventure. The game will utilize the Revolution controller, like jumping by flicking the controller. The party games are also back with even more modes to try out like a whack-a-mole game and ring toss.

Konami announces Revolution game Elebits

Pokemon ChannelThis week’s Famitsu revealed Konami’s first title for the Nintendo Revolution, which looks like it’s going to be a more casual game themed somewhere in between the GameCube’s Pikmin and the Xbox 360’s upcoming Viva Pinata.

The creatures the game revolves around also provide the game’s title - they are called Elebits, a short form for “electrical bit”. They are tiny, cute animals, which players need to actively hunt for in order to catch them. Meanwhile, the game world around them is supposed to constantly evolve.

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion coming to PSP & PS3 in November

Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Collector's Edition (DVD-ROM)More Pre-E3 news is coming out. Slashdot reports that Bethesda’s 2006 line-up has been revealed, and on the list is are Playstation 3 and PSP ports of Oblivion.

Both are currently slated for a November 2006 release, which further backs up Sony’s insistence that the PS3 will launch in November. With the PSP version dated November 6th, a formal announcement is expected in a couple weeks at E3.

Is anyone else wondering how the PSP is going to run this?
Update: Well, we just got our answer from Bethesda, it’s a rumor for now: “At present, we have no announced plans to bring Oblivion to any platforms other than PC or Xbox 360.”
