Merry Christmas from VGB

videogamesblogger maintenance
Most of the weekend we had the above picture message on the frontpage (click on it to enlarge). This was the result of many more visitors coming by and as a result we had to make some changes in our house. But that wasn’t enough, so right now we’re looking at a brand new house of its own for VGB. While we hope this move happens smoothly, please don’t refresh every time a page doesn’t show up, it only makes the problems worse for us. We hope to have everything fixed today, but it is Christmas, so hardly anyone’s working and you might as well enjoy a Merry Christmas and play some games! Hopefully we’ll be back to updating tonight or tomorrow if the turkey put us to sleep. Does anyone have catnip to stop kitty from bothering the worker Pikmin? :-P

Rayman Raving Rabbids Wii review

Rayman Raving Rabbids for WiiAs a Wii launch title, Rayman Raving Rabbids (codename Rayman 4) is especially designed with the Wii Remote in mind. While it started out as the fourth direct sequel in the Rayman line of adventure games from creator Michel Ancel, the variation in gameplay modes become too wide to fit in just the adventure genre and thus the idea of a minigames collection based around the Bunnies came about.

1 Million PS3 units shipped worldwide

Sony PlayStation 3Videogame Charts got their hands on Sony’s PlayStation 3 shipment numbers. They show:

Japan has received 390,000 PS3 units.
The Americas have received 620,000 PS3 units.
Which would put PS3 at 1.01 million units worldwide.

However, these are shipped numbers, which the latest Media Create sales numbers from Japan confirm. Last week in Japan, 70,942 PS3’s were sold, bringing the total in customers’ hands there to 308,949 units. Compared to 390,000 units shipped now, that’s a difference of 81,051, which probably sold this week.

Nintendo’s Wii has sold 2.34 million units in about the same time span of a month. And after a year on the market Microsoft’s Xbox 360 has reportedly sold 7.12 million units.

Xbox 360 warranty to 1 year in America and Canada

Microsoft Xbox 360Effective today the one year warranty is now the standard for all Xbox 360 consoles in the United States and Canada. Strange it took them so long to move from 90 days to one full year warranty there, since it’s a standard almost everywhere worldwide for hardware at those prices.

Customers that experience hardware issues with their Xbox 360 within one year of purchase will have their consoles repaired at no cost. Moreover, the new warranty policy is retroactive, so consumers that may have already paid for out-of-warranty Xbox 360 repair within one year of the console’s purchase will be eligible for reimbursement of their console repair charges.

Customers who have already paid for repairs within their first year of ownership can expect reimbursement checks for the amount of their console hardware repair in approximately 10 weeks. Article continues »

Tomb Raider: Anniversary remake first details and trailer

Tomb Raider: Anniversary new Lara Croft“Sometimes to understand your present, you have to go back to your past. And this time, things will be different!” Lara Croft says in the first trailer of her upcoming spring 2007 remake of her first adventure ten years ago titled Tomb Raider: Anniversary.

Crystal Dynamics is developing the game inspired by the original, but using an enhanced Tomb Raider: Legend game engine and will be released on PC, PSP and PS2. Also included will be some multiplayer features that are still being ironed out. Trailer here:

The game will follow the same basic story as the original, so you’ll once again be guiding Lara as she’s commissioned to retrieve an ancient relic known as a “scion”. As anyone who’s played through the original game can tell you, while the gameplay was aces, the story wasn’t big on making sense once you started progressing. As a result, Crystal is fleshing out the narrative to offer some clarity on what the heck is going on.

Lara’s radial inventory wheel is back, as is the simple tune that plays when you discover hidden areas. One thing to note about the Anniversary Collection’s mechanics is that they’ve been opened up some to include elements introduced in Tomb Raider: Legend such as the grapple, context-sensitive actions, and the cinematic button-pressing moments.

Crackdown on crime February 20. Xbox Live co-op demo on January 18.

January 17 update: The demo is delayed, but will still be available sometime before the end of January.

Pre-order Crackdown for Xbox 360The Xbox 360 game Crackdown explodes onto Xbox Live Marketplace with a single-player and online cooperative demo on January 18th, followed by its arrival on North American store shelves February 20th at a price of $59.99.

Pacific City is overridden; crime controls the streets. Three powerful gangs have taken the once-great metropolis hostage, and the police have proven powerless in their efforts to regain control. Only the Agency—deploying genetically enhanced agents of justice—can provide citizens with some sense of hope.

Gamers will arm themselves with high-tech weapons, transformable vehicles and incredible, gravity-defying superskills in preparation to take back Pacific City as they battle their way through the roads and rooftops of Crackdown.

From Realtime Worlds, made by the original creator (David Jones) of Grand Theft Auto, Crackdown pushes the action-driving hybrid genre into the next generation in a 3-D playground. Gamers will level up their Agent’s strength, agility, firearms, explosives, and driving skills while scaling the fully vertical world of Crackdown. This M-rated game incorporates co-op gameplay throughout the entire free-form campaign. Creating a volatile cocktail of judicial oppression, players will clean up the streets of an interactive world.

Gears of War newbie tips guide

Gears Of War on Xbox 360If you are receiving Gears of War as a present this holiday season, the fact that other people have been playing online for a few months could be intimidating. Thus Gamerscoreblog gave a few tips to the newbs/newbies/n00bs that they’ve picked up in online matches. Hopefully these tips will help you folks get over some of the initial learning curve.

Here’s the list:
* Teamwork is key: Stick together, and use voice-chat to update teammates as to which weapons you have, and where you see enemies. Don’t be a hero and run off by yourself or you will quickly get killed, and your teammates will be mad at you.
* Initial dash: Most matches start off with a mad-dash to the weapons. During this time, plant your strategy (who’s getting which weapon, what routes will you attack, etc) If you don’t know the maps, tell your teammates that, and follow someone else until you learn them. Article continues »
