PS3 demand down despite new U.S. stock, Wii still keeps selling out worldwide

Nintendo WiiMy my my, how the tables have turned! When I went to pick up an extra Wii controller this week I was told by the clerk “So… YOU’RE ONE OF THOSE people with a Wii,” she said in both an envious and awed voice. “Yes” I replied with an evil grin knowing they sold me the only Wii they got in nearly two weeks time “I hear they are quite rare.” Of course this resulted in a chat about how fun Wii Sport Tennis was to play, they got my money and I walked away with a fourth controller, everybody happy.

Sony PlayStation 3The tables have turned, because a month ago PS3′s where the hot item to get (on eBay if you had the spare $2,000). According to PRweb who quotes Ian Drake, owner of NotifyWire, which tracks online retailers and sends “in stock” alerts to members. He said: “I wasn’t expecting this much volume before Christmas,” he continues explaining the common practice of bundling consoles and games to force anxious buyers into higher margin items “I think we’re already at the point where many people won’t pay a premium for the console or be forced into buying bundles.”

Microsoft Xbox 360Compared to last year’s Xbox360 release, Ian says the PlayStation 3 has been available at more retailers, more often, and for longer periods of time. “Last year, at NotifyWire.com, we tracked several one thousand dollar Xbox 360 bundles which would sell out in less than two minutes after becoming available.” When asked about PlayStation 3 availability this year, he sited a recent example. “Just today, a one thousand dollar PS3 bundle was in stock at eToys.com for over 12 hours. This sort of thing didn’t happen with the Xbox 360 until well after Christmas.” Perhaps Sony should be worried.

More evidence that suggests waning demand for the PS3 is available on eBay. Days after the PS3 was released, consoles purchased at retailers for six hundred dollar were consistently flipped on eBay for over two thousand dollars. As of this writing, the same console is selling for slightly above retail and in some cases not at all. Via Newswire

Looking at the massive sales of GEARS OF WAR and the success of other titles combined the amount of BIG AAA games the 360 has coming from the begining of 2007 and the Wii taking off in such a big way i’m not surprised at all, I just don’t see anywhere for the PS3 to fit in.

Microsoft did a number on Sony when they released a year early. A lot of people got impatient, and already dealed with the over the top selling and botched systems of last year’s 360 release…couple that with expensive pricing, little worthwile games (while the 360 has a respectable library), no availability, and 360 shoving $100 Toys R Us gift cards with purchase and Sony has to bow to the direct competitor.

And Nintendo…bravo! It’s amazing what they did, they’re like the saviors :P Cheap, fun console that everyone’s buzzing about. I’m happy :P

Congrats on your Wii Supa ;)

Sony are finally getting their come-uppance

Hat`s off to them with the PS1 they really stole the jump on everyone especially with Ridge Racer looking so great, it really was a next gen jump!

Then a bit complacent with PS2.

Now MS got the jump with the 360, the LIVE service is one of the greatest jumps/next steps in gaming for years and then “N” come up with the Wii + DS.

So many people have seen the light with PS3 and not buying as so damn expensive and no must have games. All the buyers for profit are now catching a cold.

I know lot`s of people that are all going Wii60

What a great Christmas for M-Soft , “N” and gamers

Tough Love to SONY and about time!!!!
