Two new Final Fantasy Tactics games coming (PSP and DS?)

IGN.com is reporting that two new Final Fantasy Tactics games are in the works by Square Enix!

This is coming only a day after Square dropped a major bombshell by announcing that the newest Dragon Quest game, Dragon Quest IX: Defender of the Starry Sky, would be developed exclusively for Nintendo’s ultra-popular Nintendo DS handheld. Which came as a major shift for the franchise which has always remained on consoles for the core games in the series (with spin-off’s like the recent Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime, shining on handhelds).

After seeing that reversal, placing Square squarely (pun not intended) in the “making-love with Nintendo” camp, they will be giving Sony some love as well by releasing, according to the IGN report, an updated version of the original PSX Final Fantasy Tactics game, for the PSP, titled Final Fantasy Tactics: Shishi Sensou. Details on specific updates are scarce outside of some new CG-movies and new jobs.

Nothing is known about the second FFT title outside of this name: Final Fantasy Tactics A2 Fuuketsu no Guurimore. Including what system it will land on. Likely DS or GBA!

More details will be released in the next issue of Japan’s Jump Magazine. And Sat. in Japan will be the annual Jump Festa comic/videogame show where at least one of the games should be revealed in much more detail if not fully playable. At the very least some kind of video or trailer is likely.

Both Final Fantasy Tactics projects fall under a series of projects that Square Enix refers to as the “Ivalice Alliance,” Ivalice being the name of the world in which both Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII take place. Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings, a DS offshoot of this year’s PS2 blockbuster, also falls under this project.

Let’s just hope that all these spin-offs turn out better than the games so-far released in Squares FFVII: Compilation Project (such as Dirge of Cerberus).
