Game attach rates: 3.9 per DS, 4.5 per GameBoy Advance, 9.3 per GameCube

Nintendo DS Lite Onyx BlackIt was rather shocking when the PS3 launch number revealed just over one game per console were sold (below in Japan, above in the USA). We then listed the other game attach rates as 3 per Wii and a little more representative with a year on the market was the Xbox 360 with over 5 per console, but why stop there? Nintendo’s press site conveniently put out a list showing hardware & software sales that reveal the attach rate at 4 per DS after 2 years, 4.5 per GameBoy Advance after 5 years, and a huge 9+ per GameCube after 5 years of availability.

Worldwide hardware sales:
DS: 26.82 million units
GameBoy Advance/GBA SP: 76.79 million units
GameCube: 21.2 million units

Worldwide software sales:
DS: 103.60 million units
GameBoy Advance: 347.53 million units
GameCube: 198.05 million units

American hardware sales:
DS: 6.63 million units
GameBoy Advance/GBA SP: 33.63 million units
GameCube: 11.36 million units

American software sales:
DS: 21.42 million units
GameBoy Advance: 155.59 million units
GameCube: 99.64 million units

Totals worldwide:
Total hardware: more than 387 million units
Total software: nearly 2.2 billion units

Total Mario series: more than 193 million units sold worldwide
Total Zelda series: more than 47 million units worldwide
Total Metroid series: more than 13 million units worldwide
