Gran Turismo HD cancelled, to appear as downloadable GT-HD Concept demos via the PS3 store

Kazunori Yamaouchi, CEO and producer at Gran Turismo series developer Polyphony, has revealed that they will focus their attention on Gran Turismo 5. As a result Gran Turismo HD will no longer be released as a full game. Gran Turismo HD will instead be available for download as GT-HD Concept demo via the PlayStation Store on December 24 in Japan.
GT-HD Concept features: 10 cars, 1 course with 2 layouts, Time Attack and Drift Trial modes. It also delivers a full HD visual experience reinforced with the new engine being developed for GT5. It has no online support other than a network ranking.
There will be more concept versions hitting the PlayStation Store before GT5 is released. Still, the full online experience won’t come until Gran Turismo 5 arrives in 2008. Let’s hope these demos will be released online worldwide. This is definitely another case of “where there’s smoke, there’s fire”. Translation from Japanese by C&VG.
