PS3′s Cell three times more powerful as the Xbox 360 processor?

Cell Processor This summer Sony created a training website for Canadian Wal Mart employees. The access codes got leaked when a store visitor saw a manager put up internal documents around the store.

After logging in, Sony marketing spin quotes can be found while employees read, learn & test their PS3 knowledge. Here’s the real gem:

“Welcome to your PS3 Retail Online Training. We trust that you will find the following information valuable and assist you in understanding and explaining PS3 Technology to your customers and staff. … The Cell Processor is essentially as powerful as 3 Xbox 360 CPUâ€™s or 35 PlayStationÂ® 2 CPUâ€™s”

And you wonder why store clerks so seldom know what they are talking about? How in the world is “The Cell is actually 7 SPUâ€™s (Synthetic Processing Units) each running at 3.2 GHZ” supposed to inform customers? Here’s a screenshot (click to enlarge) of one of the tests where employees can win prizes if they get all the answers right.

Oh and by the way, most developers say that the horsepower inside both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will be comparable a few years from now as it’s all about what they can get out of their processors to use in-game. That’s a good thing and also why Gears of War look prettier in graphical detail than any PS3 launch games shown so far.

A direct quote from Silicon Knights president Denis Dyack says: “The 360 and the PS3 are equal in power in my eyes,” Dyack says. “Maybe the PS3 has more processing power. The 360 has more available memory. It’s pretty much a net, net. The public perception of the PS3 was that it was much more powerful. To developers, they look even.“

ok here…lets get serious now….you morons are fighting over a VIDEO GAME SYSTEM!….some of you guys have good points though…first things first….360 vs ps3….sure even if ps3 is better, who cares!?…u guys keep rambling on about graphical capability and all that crap, look at the wii….HORRIBLE graphics, but a fun spin on videogaming. i wouldint be surprised if that smokes the ps3 this holiday season. i own a 360, i got mine off launch, ive never had to replace it, nor was there ever a problem with it. mark my words…PS3 WILL SCREW UP! its inevetable, its a new system, with new never before realeased hardware. theres bound to be a few kinks. also….anyone here herd of ADAM WAKE? go look it up for the 360…then come back, and tell me about your “glorified” graphics on the ps3…both companys, both systems have perks. one may be better for one thing, the other, for another. when it comes down to it, its what games you like best. also, FF, MGS and GT…all blow chunks, FF=boring, MGS=worse then FF which i didint think was possible, and GT…if i wanted to race in an exact simulation id go drive my own friggin car. i buy video game systems to ENTERTAIN me, not so i can learn how to drive. or choose from a menu of spells. the ps3 has that stupid tilt function…how many games could POSSIBLY use that?…the wii wins that round with innovation. who would have thought, one day we would be using a remote to play games? lol…anyways..to finish off, i dont care, if ps3 is better. i really dont….xbox has good games…its preety powerful as far as i can see, and it ENTERTAINS me,if i wanted a ps3, id take my ps2 and round off the edges and paint it silver, kthnkz.
btw..1080p…too bad only like 2 companys make tvs which use that function currently, and they cost an arm and a leg…and there really isint a HUGE diff from 1080 i to p.

um i think its funny when people talk about people who had to return systems.

does anybody remeber the ps2? yea thought so, it had more faulty systems than microsoft has systems out.

Do they realise that the 360 can do 1080p as well?

Do they realise that Blu-Ray is an unnecessarily large media holder? (excluding the fact that there will be more CG videos taking up the space on the disc than Game Data itself)

Do they realise that PS3 loading times are going to be longer than the 360′s?

Do they realise that once the battery goes faulty in the controller, a new controller is needed?

Do they realise that they ripped off features from other consoles and claimed them to be their own unique idea?

Do they realise that Microsoft isn’t like SEGA and just sits quietly whilst watching Sony BS about them?

Do they realise that Sony shut down one of the greatest importing sites recently? (Lik-Sang)

Well, here’s how I feel. The PS3 is more powerful than the 360, but not many people wanna plunk down 600 dollars for a machine that will have the same games as the 360. The original xbox was more powerful than the PS2, but they had the same games. If the PS3 was 400 bucks, I’d consider it, but 600 dollars to get what you get, not interested.

Also, I have plenty of fine DVDs, so Bluray and HDDVD are not really for me. I’ve sunk so much money into DVDs, I don’t wanna have to upgrade. Now I know how my parents felt when VHS started to dissapear. (Honestly, I dont think HDDVD or Bluray will take off. People are content with what they have)

without a shadow of a doubt, the ps3 is a million miles faster than the xbox. at the wrong things. it can compress video really really quickly. which was useful when sony told us that the ps3 would be a hd tv recorder too, but they dropped that feature.

most of the SPU advantage is being eaten up by the fact it has to make up for the PoS GPU in the system (which if i recall correctly is a 6800 with cut down shaders)

the 360 has live which is a total killer feature (and worth paying for, sonys segmented free attempt isnt appealing at all, its no better than what the ps2/psp have – which are useless)

blueray is a red herring for games. not being funny, if u are that anal that u need movies that good quality, you wont want to put up with the WOOOOSH of a consoles internals, wether it be xbox or PS Fat Reducing Grill 3.

And unlike sony (who constantly battle homebrewers on the psp), ms are EMBRACING home dev. its not just not banned, but its supported and encouraged, and theres even easy routes to making coin from it.

And six axis? MS tried that years ago with the sidewinder and it was a total flop. the wii is a bit more inventive with it, but the ps3′s pad? its just not worth it. and at the cost of rumble support? is it gonna be like the n64 where rumble is a 3rd party add on?

all in all i think the consoles will be closely matched, tho the memory will hurt ps3 more than they think – but with everything else the 360s got (rumble, live, homebrew, $300 change) why would u seriously consider a ps3?

for the same reason every tard on the planet has a ps2 – because everyone else has one. u gotsa have the sony brand, and u gotta have an ipod etc etc.

I wonder if this “j” person realized that

1) if the controllers battery does start to degrade they will replace it free of charge

2) Lik-sang got what coming to them for dealing in a grey business which is why they were getting sued in the first place *I.E. Their own damn fault.

3) Check resistance for disc space ( I guess your excuse will be that it isn’t compressed, even though it is) … just because your favorite system decided to stay with DVD’s made blu-ray unnecessary. Especially since Tomonobu Itagaki , a Die hard xbox supporter/developer even questioned the decision to stay with DVD)

4) That Microsoft constantly dismissed 1080p as not possible at times… but then magically it became necessary ** I wonder if that qualifies them as copying as well**

5) I guess they are copying sony again with the dual analog sticks… hmm

6) I remember several fairly long load times in oblivion as well… oh and hell like a 12-15 second one in an upcoming live arcade game. ** And some games with longer load times can be offloaded to the HDD to significantly cut those load times.

7) That your father Mr.Gates claimed that you wont need more than 640kb of ram… oh how evolution makes fools of us all.

I wonder if J is gonna resort to the **you cant play rented games rumor**
