Earthbound 2 (Mother 3) fans geting no Nintendo DS English translation in “immediate future”

EarthboundSo Planet GameCube interviewed a Nintendo Localization Producer/Manager about the upcoming Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but that interview also featured a tidbit about the Earthbound sequel. If you’re a big (and by now very disappointed) fan, I wouldn’t read the last sentence, it’s :(

Let’s agree with forumers that this needs more attention. At VGB we really think all 3 “Earthbound” games would be a perfect fit for the Wii’s Virtual Console download service. Cheap distribution, and the waters can be tested with the SNES game first. Make it happen Nintendo!

PGC: So Nate, for our readers at home, can you explain what it is you do at Treehouse?
Nate Bihldorff: Sure. My title is Localization Producer/Manager. The manager side of it, I manage three of our writers on whatever projects they’re working on, and the localization producer side basically covers the rest of what I do, which is the active writing that I do on specific projects and all the other corporate stuff that I have to do with the job. [Laughs]

PGC: Alright, so how much writing do you really do on a day-to-day, project-to-project basis?
Bihldorff: It really depends on the project. This last period that I just came through was a pretty interesting one. The two projects that I was working on simultaneously were Elite Beat Agents and Zelda [Twilight Princess].

PGC: If I were to say… would games like, I don’t know…Rhythm Heaven or Mother 3 be filed under that ‘awesome stuff’?
Bihldorff: Man, Mother 3. I don’t know what’s going on with that game. That’s already out in Japan, right? Was it awesome, did you play through it?

PGC: No. I’d like to, but it’s all in Japanese. That’s where you guys come in!
Bihldorff: No, me personally, I’m not working on Mother 3. I don’t have all the writers under me, so there may be other people in discussions going on with it, but I wouldn’t look forward to it in the immediate future, no. Sorry, I know! There’s a big Mother fanbase, there is. At least everyone can go back and play Melee to get your Ness on. [Laughs]

this broke my spirit alittle, but i still got hope

two words: english translation.

some people on the internet have already translated through chapter 7, and hopefully will release the patch soon (you have to provide your own rom) just google english translation mother 3 and it’s the first result

I think Nintendo should somehow come
out w/ Earthbound (Mother 2) for playstation
2 or at least Nintendo Wii; their is talk that
it might be out for Nintendo Wii; lets hope;
its just to bad it probly wont be out for play-
station 2 I kinda got my hopes up a little to
much; I love this game its one of my most
favorite games Ive played in my whole life;
personalluy I think they should have every
game for every system thatd make things
easier for everyone

James you are an idiot.

I think a little part of me died. =[

But still, there’s a little glimmer of hope. I don’t have a rom or anything, and I’d really like to play and experience this game. C’mon, Nintendo. Do it! Release all three in America. Gosh, the game takes place in Eagleland, doesn’t it? I think we in “Eagleland” should get to experience it.

I don’t get it!!

Surely translation must be the easiest form of localisation possible?

To choose not to do it must limit sales opportunities.

Madness!!
